i have learned about the six kinds of love, or as they are called “colours of love”
storge. storge refers to the friendly love. basically when searching for your significant other you don’t just look for a romantic lover you look for a best friend. if you are this kind of lover, your significant other needs to provide you with not only romantic gestures and physical attraction but also feelings and obligations that you would find in a best friend. this is the most popular love right now.
agape. this kind of love is a selfless and generous kind of love. you always put the needs and desires of your lover first. you, in your mind, come second in comparison to them. you are willing to give all that you have to make your lover happy. this kind of love can also be good and bad because while putting your lover first you forget about yourself and your needs. and if you were to break up, it takes a while for the agape lover to get over it and re-evaluate their priorities.
mania. mania refers to obsessive love. it is very emotional and truly takes you on a roller coaster ride. you are either up or down because of this love, it effect your moods, how you think, how you live, how you do everything. you dream about your lover and think about them all the time. it’s a love hate relationship. this is what many refer as the “real romantic love” however this is the most dangerous love. also referred to as infatuation, only 50% of this love it true love.
pragma. this is the longing to find a partner simular to you. you try to find a lover with the same interests, passions, goals and interests as yourself. there is really not much else for me to say about this one.
ludos. this is the playful love. this is the kind of lover that is less likely to settle down. you never pick one lover you pick many, you like to play the game of love and you are good at it. most likely lover to cheat, and not to be tied down by one lover. preferes the “friends with benefits” type relationship and often is the lover that breaks the most hearts and causes the most drama.
eros. this kind of love is when you view your partner as ideally as possible. you consider them to be the most beautiful. it is a instant attraction, very passionate, and often begins the relationship more lustfully than romantically. this gradually changes into a very fulfilling love.
in my text book there was a test to take to figure out what kind of lover you are. i was mostly storge. followed closely with a tie between agape and mania. which really makes sense for me.
